Dear players, members and supporters.
Just a quick note in order to touch base as we head toward the midway point of GVL Season 2022. With covid and a strong strain of the flu lingering around I hope you are all ‘fighting on’ and in good health and to those who have had the opportunity to travel to a warmer climate or have plans, half your luck!.
Its been great to have an uninterrupted season so far and hopefully it continues. Its been terrific to see our members and supporters in good numbers at home games and certainly when we travel away. The support the club receives never ceases to amaze me and it has been great to hold some social events during the first nine rounds. Even though numbers were down for Ladies Day in May I thought it was a very successful day with plenty of ‘good vibes’ which continued on well into the evening. Our Past Presidents, Life Members and Sponsors luncheon was again well attended and it was great to have Simon Madden and Luke Ball with us. A great turnout by our sponsors ensured that the day was very much a success.
Thursday Night Teas and Thirsty Bears continue to be well attended also and on average over 100 meals are served up each Thursday night after training. It’s a great opportunity to catch up other than on match day.
Plenty happening over the coming months as we hit the down hill slide towards finals in September. Socially we have the Special Effort $100 draw (Cheeky’s Draw) on July the 2nd, the Annual Ball on the 30th of July and of course the GF Eve Luncheon at the back end of the season. We also have two more dinners at the Shepparton Brewery and some social nights at the rooms which are organised by the playing group.
Grand final weekend will be massive with the AFL GF on Saturday the 24th of September and then the GVL GF the next day. The club will require an ‘all hands on deck’ approach for the GVL GF which will be a massive day and hopefully a profitable one for our club.
I would like to thank our coaches, trainers and volunteers who passionately ‘put in’ and commit week after week to ensure that we have the best possible chance of success on field and court. We have some ‘bloody’ great people around this place.
Please enjoy the remainder of the season, be safe and for our members and supporters it would be great to see you at as many games as possible.
Don’t forget to check out our coming events and club information on the website and on social media. Any suggestions that you may have, please let myself or another committee member know. We are open to anything within reason !.
See you all at the footy and netball.
Regards
Mark Washington
